Gunna Lets the Music Speak on 'Bittersweet Tour'
Gunna & special guest Flo Milli begin tour in Columbus, Ohio
Gunna kicked off the first night of The Bittersweet Tour on May 4 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio. With many excited to see the Atlanta rapper and special guest Flo Milli, the show started off on an unfortunate note when Flo Milli walked off stage after having objects thrown at her twice during her opening set. She addressed the crowd both times. “B---h when I f---ing catch you h-e, I swear to f---ing God,” warned Flo Milli as she exited the stage.
The crowd booed the audience member as security removed them. Fifteen minutes later, Flo Milli returned to the stage for one final song, her mega hit “Never Lose Me.” Fans cheered loudly, wishing they could have heard more.
This comes after a string of women artists have had objects thrown at them while opening for male rappers. In November 2023, Ari Lennox narrowly avoided getting hit by a bottle while opening for Rod Wave at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Two years earlier, Rico Nasty also had a bottle thrown at her at Playboi Carti’s King Vamp Tour in Portland, Oregon.
Gunna did not publicly address the Flo Mill incident; however, Flo Milli watched and danced along to Gunna’s set and later posted on X (formerly Twitter), “lol im good yall literally twerking as we speak” and “they cant keep a real b---h down tf.”
With Gunna’s next album One of Wun set to release on May 10, the 30-year-old rapper began his set on a smaller B-stage designed to look like a glacier. Bundled up in an oversized fur hood with shorts and boots to match, and joined by a surrealist, human-like mountain goat, Gunna performed three songs expected to be on the new album: “Bittersweet,” “Whatsapp (Wassam),” and “Prada Dem,” which features Offset.
Gunna brought in different nature elements throughout the Live Nation-produced show, including snow flurries on the B-stage and underwater visuals as he made his way to the main stage. In the opening video, scuba divers unearthed a statuesque depiction of Gunna’s head, which became the main backdrop during his performance.
“I’m happy to see everyone in the f---ing building tonight,” Gunna told fans. The four-time Grammy nominee looked confident, exuding high energy throughout his set. He impressively rapped every song word for word. This comes more than two years after Gunna was released from jail in December 2022 after taking a plea deal in the RICO case involving him, Young Thug, and other members of the Young Stoner Life (YSL) collective.
While some have alluded to Gunna as a snitch, most recently with Kendrick Lamar on his diss track “euphoria” implying Drake has a worse reputation ("I know some s--t about n----s that make Gunna Wunna look like a saint”), Gunna referenced all the allegations in an intermission video where he opted to let the music speak.
After the short break, Gunna returned to the main stage in a two-piece, black-feathered shoulder shrug and pants set. Fans excitedly enjoyed the final portion of the show, which included favorites such as “Drip or Drown,” “fukumean,” and Gunna’s verses on “pushin P,” Young Thug’s “Hot” and YSL’s “Ski.”
Gunna continues The Bittersweet Tour on Monday, May 6 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. The 16-date tour will continue through June 11, ending with a hometown stop at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena. Along the way, Gunna is teaming up with Black Music Action Coalition and Live Nation to support his non-profit organization, Gunna’s Great Giveaway, by allocating $1 from every ticket sold on the tour to support Atlanta’s inner city communities.
