Alex, this was beautiful man. I appreciate the backstory of these people and how they relate to you. I have a deeper respect for the resilience people gave gone through to be great. The odds are baffling. It makes me want to continue believing in your self. If it can happen for them - surely it can happen for me.

My brother, thank you for making time to reading it. You are great. Everything you’ve gone through so far has brought you to where you are, and that’s worth celebrating. Keep going. Keep pursuing love.

This is what I like to call ™️The Red Thread of Fate. Sometimes, before we do something that may be important even if we don’t know it then, we feel that thread tug at something in our chest, sometimes it’s so powerful that that string is pulled taut so as to compel us to do whatever it is we must do. Then sometimes after this happens, we recognize why it had to occur, and we’re like, “I knew there was a reason why I did that.”

Thanks for this message, Abby! I really like how you described that thread. Going to sit with this!

Glad you liked it, Alex.

One of my favorites, Alex. I really love the care you take with both of their stories as well as your own. The ways in which ours lives journey onward is so fascinating to reflect on. But when someone else see the magic in it? What a gift. I know our best friends, Jokić and Dua, would be so touched by this. Can’t wait to have you all over for dinner soon 😌

Shivani!!! Thank you 🫂 I appreciate you making a safe space for all of my selves to show up, especially the ones that giggle every time Jokić does anything and can’t stop playing Illusion around the house. Multitudes, fam. Multitudes. Also, can’t wait!!! Lmk what to bring!

Your ability to meld together seemingly very different story lines into one heartwarming piece is true talent. I enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing.

It’s my favorite thing to do. Thank you so much, Rachel. I always have to ask my wife if what I wrote made sense lol, and I’m glad this one did. Thanks for reading and sharing how it connected with you!

man!! jokic is an insane player. Effortless player. He plays like that intelligent student in class who doesn’t need to read before tests.

to think he was a second round pick and he’s putting up these sort of numbers is even more crazier.

A second round pick drafted during a Taco Bell commercial!!! It's wild. I'm so happy he's on my favorite team. And I'm absolutely of the mind that his footwork needs to be studied by scientists. There's something special there that might solve something important.

A quote from an anime I enjoyed - “There is no such thing a coincidence in this world, there is only the inevitable.”

Their stories are inspiring. Thank you for sharing! We’ve been listening to Illusion A LOT around here. As a child of immigrants, I often wonder where I’d be (or if I’d even be here) if my parents didn’t struggle the way they did. Also, how cool is it that he was wearing a nuggets sweatshirt then?!? 🥹

Expand full comment

Absolutely, thank for reading! Illusion is SO good. Such an earworm. And I love getting to reflect on all the things that have shaped who we are. None of us get where we are alone. We're part of someone's lineage.

My wife just bought me a replica of the sweatshirt Jokić is wearing in that photo, and I've worn it the past three games the Nuggets have won. It really is powerful.

That is so true.

What a cool gift! Don’t wash it! 😆😆
